    Edward Thomas Henry Hutton was in command of the N.S.W. military forces 1893-1897 with the local rank of Major-General (see: The Australian encyclopaedia / editor-in-chief A.H. Chisholm. Sydney : Angus and Robertson, [1958]). Corporate Cameron is cited in Hutton's Narrative of the Tour of Inspection through the Western Division of New South Wales ..., p. 3, Sydney, 1895
  • Signatures / Inscriptions

    Manufacturer's name 'Hardy Bros Sydney' is inscribed on face of watch, and on machinery; the number '1265' is also engraved on the machinery. The face is protected by a hinged silver mask, the inside of which is stamped "900 M", with hallmark of rampant lion beneath: at rght "Fine silver"; at base; "151265". The hallmark could not be traced. The mask is engraved 'Corporal Cameron N.S.W. Field Artillery from Major General Hutton C.B. - A.D.C. to the Queen. Com.dg N.S.W. Mil. Forces'. The hinged back repeats the same hallmark on the inside and is inscribed on the outside 'In recollection of the following Marches Kosciusko District Ap. 9th-25th 1894. 158 miles. Monaro and South Coast June 10th-19th 1895. 269 miles. Western District Sept. 30th - Oct. 19th 1895. 500 miles. When he accompanied him as orderly'. An interior hinged guard is also stamped with the hallmark and number.
