  • Scope and Content
    The photographs include a portrait of John Burrows, and views of flour mills he worked at and set up at Deloraine, Chiltern, Beechworth and Albury.

    No.1 John Burrows born Kingsley, Cheshire Jan 1829. Brother of Tim [?] Burrows, printer of …? Green Cheshire, England. Died Albury (Australia) 19th Oct. 1904.

    No.2 [View of] Deloraine Mills. Tasmania.
    John Burrows who migrated to Australia 1855, late 1855 obtained a position in the Deloraine Mill owned by Horne. Two months later JB wrote “Have left the employ of Horne for I would not submit to the tyranny of any man”. He joined Richard Clayton immediately (PDB 5/10/1975)

    No.3 John Burrows, Beechworth (Vic.) Flour Mill 187?
    Water wheel sold to Harrietville? Mining Co. for £25, taken in shares. Water wheel later used by a farmer to operate grain crushing plant (PDB/75)

    No.4 John Burrows Chiltern (Vic) Flour Mill (1880). Demolished by P.D. Burrows 1948.

    No.5 Chiltern Flour Mills owned by John Burrows. E.H. Burrows Manager 1897. Bought by John Burrows 1860. Demolished by Moon 1949. Was situated next door to National Trust, Henry Handel Richardson home. (PDB)
