Brett Whiteley was born in 1939 and died in 1992. Brett's name for Beryl was 'Sning'. This later became 'Ning', the way in which his baby daughter Arkie pronounced it. In 1957 Beryl left Australia to live mainly in London. She returned to Australia in the 1990s.
