  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Charles Meere (1890–1961) was born in London in 1890. He trained as a muralist at the Royal College of Art before moving to Australia in 1930 in search of work as a commercial artist. He is best known for his stylised art deco paintings of Australian life during the interwar period. He died in 1961.

    Herbert Badham was born in in Sydney in 1899. He studied at the Julian Ashton Art School, between 1925 and 1938. An early modernist, his predominantly figurative paintings depict city life and beach scenes. He died in 1961.
