  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Foundation for Child and Youth Studies was a non-profit interdisciplinary organisation which took over from the Unit for Child Studies at the University of New South Wales, established in 1979 by Dr. Shelley Phillips. Briefly called the Foundation for Child Studies around 1984, the following year, it formally adopted the name Foundation for Child and Youth Studies. It was established following requests from parents, child care workers, medical practitioners and government agencies for information about child development, for which there was no pre-existing centre in Australia. It offered seminars and sponsored research, disseminating information about infant, child and adolescent development.
