The Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) is the leading national not-for profit environment organisation. It is financed by member subscriptions, publication sales, donations, bequests and government grants. A draft constitution of ACF was approved in 1965, and the first council meeting was held in September that year. In 1967 the first election of councillors took place, and a full-time Director was appointed. The NSW Office had for a number of years one staff member, Alan Catford (NSW Liaison Officer), who resigned in 1986. Catford contributed to the ACF’s increasing profile in three major areas: natural environment and wildlife, forestry and land management, and resources, industry and employment.
