  • General note

The Australian Hotel, Burrowa, on the road to the goldfields, was built on Brial and Court Street in 1866 by John Phillip Sheahan and Allan Hancock. Adjoining was a general store owned by Samuel Walker in 1867 and subsequently by Isaac Stevenson in 1868. The premises were taken over by Isaac's brother James in 1885 and renamed Wentworth House, delicensed in 1894 and converted to a store and residence. In 1914 the building was destroyed by fire. The east section and balcony survives -- Reference: Note on ML file
