  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Cedric Raymond Emanuel was born on 1 July 1906 in Gisbourne, New Zealand, and his family emigrated to Australia when he was four years old. He studied art at the Royal Art Society and the Julian Ashton Art School and later worked as a commercial artist through the 1920s and 1930s. He served as an unofficial war artist during World War II and, after the war, he worked freelance and as an illustrator for almost 50 Australian books. He was known for his sketches which captured the rapid change and development of Sydney and larger Australia. He died on 1 March 1995 in Sydney, New South Wales.
