  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Miss Mabel Dowding worked for the State Electoral Office and was a member of The Royal Australian Historical Society and National Trust. She died at the age of 92 in late 1980 or early 1981.

  • Scope and Content
    These albums are of photos taken by Miss Dowding while on holiday in Australia and overseas.

    1. Trip through south west NSW to Adelaide and a caravan trip to the irrigation area on the Murrumbidgee River NSW.

    2. Trip in Victoria and southern NSW (Melbourne, Boydtown, Eden, Phillip Island, Inverloch, Yallourn, Noojee, Mt Macedon, Tatura, Yarrawonga, Parkes, Condobolin, Euabalong, Cargellico).

    3. Trip from Port Augusta through Alice Springs to Darwin, then Wauchope and Tullamore, NSW (includes a photo in Darwin of a building with bomb damage after the war).

    4. Duplicate album of the trip from Port Augusta to Darwin with slight variations in arrangement and content.

    5. Trip in Queensland (Moreton Bay, Whitsundays, Magnetic Island, Cairns, Barron Falls) and then a cruise to Hong Kong, Canton, Macau and the Philippines (includes 4 postcard size Chinese watercolour drawings).

    6. Overseas trip via Colombo and Aden to England, Scotland, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Norway and Switzerland (includes one tram ticket for Glasgow).

    7. Winter holiday at Mt Kosciusko, August 1931, and a trip through western and southern NSW (Blayney, Marsden, Lake Cargellico, Whealbah, Booligal, Hay, Euston, Mildura, Moulamein, Yarrawonga and Corowa).

    8. Trips from Port Sephens to Brisbane, and Grafton to Canberra and the Burragorang Valley.

    9. Trips to Victoria and South Australia, Dec./Jan. 1934-1935 (includes a scout jamboree at Frankston, Vic., and travel by riverboat on the Murray River).

    10. This album duplicates some of the photographs of the scout jamboree and Murray River trip in the previous album. There are also photographs and postcards of Indonesia and Darwin.

    11. Pioneer bus trip from Coff's Harbour to Green Mountains. Views of McPherson Ranges, Mt Warning and Towoomba.

    12. Trip to outback NSW and parts of Victoria (Blayney, Marsden, Booligal, Hay, Euston, Mildura, Tareena, Yarrawonga, Deniliquin, Wentworth, Bourke, Jervis Bay, Yamba, Wallacia, Warragamba).

    13. Trip to north west NSW (Bathurst, Wellington, Coonamble, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, Collarenebri, Moree, Gunnedah, Murrurundi) and a trip from Melbourne to Mount Gambier in South Australia (Apollo Bay, Otway Ranges, Port Campbell, Warrnambool, Portland, Casterton, Glenelg, Port McDonnell, Nelson, Mt Gambier).

    14. Southern trip to Melbourne (Narooma, Cann River, Twofold Bay, Mt Imlay, Gippsland Lakes); northern trip to Brisbane (Taree, Grafton, Mt Cootha, Murwillumbah, Brisbane); trip on Murray River (Echuca, Koondrook, Swan Hill, Wentworth, Mildura); and postcards and photographs of Melbourne, Geelong, Ballarat, Canberra, Mudgee).
