Samuel Frederick Milford (1797-1865) came to Sydney in 1843 to take up the position of Master in Equity in New South Wales. He also became Chief Commissioner of Insolvent Estates. In 1856 he was appointed a judge of the Supreme Court and deputy-judge of the Vice-Admiralty Court in New South Wales. He also presided over the Brisbane Circuit Courts and other jurisdictions of the New South Wales Supreme Court. After Queensland separated from the colony of New South Wales in 1859, he returned to Sydney where he was a Supreme Court Judge till his death in 1865

He was survived by his wife, four sons and two daughters. His third son Frederick was a surgeon on the teaching staff of St Vincent's Hospital and commodore of the Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
