  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Beatrice Walden Hanmer was born October 1, 1910. She was a nurse in Australian Army, World War 1939-1945, and served with the 2/5 Australian General Hospital rising to the rank of Captain. She was also Matron of the 12 Camp Hospital, Sydney Showground.

    Ida Hanmer’s daughter is Beatrice Walden Hanmer.

    Loose photographs and photographic postcards of areas where Beatrice Hanmer served as an Army nurse during World War 1938-1945. Mainly in the Middle East. Images of local residents and army colleagues.

    Family photographs of the Simpson family of Armidale. Mainly of Ida Hanmer, nee Simpson, her parents and siblings. Family in photographs include Anne, Dorothy, Emmie, Tom, Frank, and parents. Photographs range from ca. 1880 to 1970, and cover several generations. Several portraits are mounted, and some are hand coloured.

    1 small alphabetical cross-stitch; 2 souvenirs of cardboard baskets from Carnarvon; 1 diamond shape button of navy cloth; 2 locks of baby hair from Baby John, November 1915 and March 1917; 1 lock of baby hair from Mildred Hanmer, aged 2 years and 6 months. Locks of hair are tied in ribbon.
