  • Scope and Content
    Two hand-coloured photographs of a baby and young child housed in a gold locket with a loop at the top centre for hanging from a chain. When open the locket has two display recesses housing the photographs which are covered in glass. The outside of the locket is decorated with two different gemstones, one side is possibly bloodstone, the other side is possibly carnelian or agate.

  • General note

    The Evans family married into the Scarvell family. John S. Scarvell married Maud Elizabeth Evans in 1906. Sydney Stewart Scarvell married Mabel Maria Devine Evans in 1904. John and Sydney were the two sons of George Scarvell (1834-1877). Maud and Mabel Evans were sisters.

    Another sister, Alice Hazel Evans, married Arthur Cape in 1920. Arthur was the son of Alfred and Sarah Cape, nee Scarvell.

    Locket is in two separate pieces as its hinge is broken. Glass covering photograph of the baby is broken.
