  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Edward Hamilton and George Clive became partners in a pastoral venture when they purchased land at Collaroy, near Merriwa in NSW, from Walter Davidson in 1839. Hamilton managed the property, whilst Clive remained in England. Hamilton sold his interest in Collaroy in 1855 to Captain H. Hamilton and James Clay. In 1854, Rowland Traill had become manager, and later, he became a partner with George Clive and Captain H. Hamilton. On Traill's death in 1873, Charles Clive, son of George Clive, became manager. Both Traill and Clive capitalised on Edward Hamilton's foundations, and the station experienced a deal of prosperity, winning many prizes for sheep at agricultural shows. Richard Brandon and later M. E. Maher succeeded Charles Clive as manager of Collaroy. Collaroy Station was sold in either 1928 or 1929
