In the 1890's George Stowe established the Palace Electric Lighting Company, an electricity generating station in the centre of Sydney. In 1910 Bert Madson began work as a Francis Bell apprentice. In 1934, with Sam Bogen, he purchased the company and changed the name to Stowe Electrical Pty Ltd. The company now operates under the name of Stowe Australia, and remains in private family ownership.
