  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Wallace James Dalgarno (1876-1933) was a member of the Royal Motor Yacht Club of New South Wales and an engineer with the Australian Gaslight Company. His father was James Dalgarno, Deputy Postmaster-General of New South Wales. Wallace went to Sydney Grammar School with Walter M. Marks, lawyer, politician and owner of the yacht Culwulla. Wallace, Marks and other friends from school yachted together and were life long friends.

    Serviette ring made from wooden block from Culwulla sailing boat.
    Written on back of photograph of the Culwulla (PXE 1340/Box 7): 'When the Culwulla was decommissioned in 1914 and Walter Marks went to England to sail in the "Shamrock" with Sir Thomas Lipton in an effort to regain the American Cup, Wally Dalgarno had a serviette ring made from the blocks from the Culwulla for each member of the crew.'
