  • Collection history
In a letter dated 5 May 1972 in Hamburg to Mr Aldridge, Custodian of Trial Bay Barracks, Ernst Nothdurfs wrote that he was a civil internee at Trial Bay Barracks during World War I. Mr Nothdurfs maintained a close connection with a number of former Trial Bay inhabitants following his repatriation in 1919. Mr Northdurfs collected a number of posters, photographs and newspaper articles from this group, which he sent to Mr Aldridge for use in a prospective museum at Trial Bay Barracks. Material relevant to Trial Bay Gaol was retained for use in the historical display. The Secretary of Arakoon State Recreation Area Trust presented the material relating to Liverpool Internment Camp to the Mitchell Library in November 1981. This material had been given by Mr Aldridge to W. D. Neil of Castle Hill some years previously, and at the suggestion of Mr Neil, the Trust presented it to the Mitchell Library. Source -- ML file
