The Burns Memorial Committee first met in Sydney in 1902 with the object of erecting a Burns Memorial. The statue of Robert Burns in the Sydney Domain was the result of their effort. They also endowed two cots at the Burnside Homes. The original Burns Memorial Committee decided to hold a reunion dinner each year until only two members remained.
