  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Raymond McGrath, born in Sydney in 1903, was a man of diverse talents. He wrote poems and short stories, and his interests included painting, etching, making woodcuts, bookbinding and editing. After winning a travelling scholarship he went to Europe in 1926 and became well-known as an architect. He was Principal Architect to the Dublin Board of Works from 1948 to 1968, and Professor of Architecture at the Royal Hibernian Academy from 1970 until his death in 1977. He published two books 'Twentieth Century Houses' (1933) and 'Glass in Architecture and Decoration (1937, rev. 1961). His sister Eileen, born in 1907, is known both as a sculptor and illustrator
