  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Reverend Richard Burdsall Lyth, 1810-1887, was ordained a minister of the Methodist Church on 30 September 1836, and elected to serve as a missionary in the Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, London. In the same year he married Mary Anne Hardy, 1811-1890, at Apperley Bridge, Yorkshire, England. In October 1836 they sailed to the Friendly Islands, now known as Tonga, Pacific Ocean, by way of Hobart, Tasmania and Sydney, N.S.W. In 1838, Richard Burdsall Lyth was transferred to a new appointment on the Fijian Island, Pacific Ocean, Richard and Mary Lyth had nine children.
