Thomas Stuart Gurr was born in Bombay in 1877 and educated as an engineer. He moved to New Zealand in 1902 and to Melbourne, Victoria in 1916. He was General Manager of he 'Sunday Times', Sydney, 1919-1922. Gurr wrote plays for broadcasting and contributed stories to Australian magazines - Scope and ContentLibretto only. The characters of the play include Pierce Collits, 1769?-1848, whose inn at the foot of Mt. York was built, ca. 1823, and Governor Darling, who visited and praised the inn in 1829
