  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Reverend Lancelot Edward Threlkeld, born in London in 1788, served as a missionary in the Society Islands, 1817-1824, for the London Missionary Society. He returned to Sydney in 1824 and took charge of the London Missionary Society's mission for aborigines at Lake Macquarie, N.S.W., and remained there until 1841. Between 1842-1845 he was a pastor of the Congregational Church at Watson's Bay, N.S.W. He was then appointed to the Mariners' Church, Sydney, where he served until his death in October 1859.

Diary, 1 January 1857-6 October 1859, of Reverend Lancelot Edward Threlkeld, written while serving as a minister to the Mariners' Church, Sydney and containing detailed information relating to his association with the Sydney Bethel Union and with a further entry by his son, Lancelot Edward Threlkeld, regarding his father's last three days of life, 7-9 October 1859
