The articles embody some of the material from the rough notes, so presumably 'Rolla' is the author of the rough notes and of the annotations to the printed articles. 'Rolla' may be a member of the Windeyer family as the volume was presented to the Library in 1918 by Mrs Windeyer Edmonds, a granddaughter of Charles Windeyer and Maronan (Well's Gazeteer 1848) was the station of Messrs Windeyer and Eldershaw. Such a publication in book form could not be traced 1960
  • Scope and Content
    Binder's title 'Phrenological M.S.S.'

Written partly in ink and partly in pencil. On page 118 is a note 'partly published in Herald'. Three sections are cut off at the beginning. At the other end of the volume is inserted a series of articles cut from the Australasian Sporting Magazine October 1850-January 1851. These articles are entitled 'Sketches of life, scenery and adventures in the bush of Australia by Rolla' except for one entitled 'Bustard Shooting by Snooks'. They are edited presumably for publication in book form possibly with title 'Sketches of life, scenery and adventure in Australia including a narrative of four months visit to the goldfields of Ophir, Sofala and (?) Valley', which title crossed through is written on the verso of the cover of the Australasian Sporting Magazine bound with extracted articles. Also bound with articles is a view published in the same magazine, December 1850 entitled 'Squatter's head station' and accompanying text, here captioned in pencil 'Maronan'
