  • Scope and Content
    Notebook has been used from both ends and material in it is only rarely continuous. From one end it begins with 2 pages of diary entries for the 20-23 February 1837 and relates the embarkation of Governor and suite to H.M.S. Rattlesnake and the first few days at sea towards Port Phillip. Some pages later there are some sentences of description of Port Phillip, a few sketches, notes on a voyage by land around Batman Hill with sketch of the country and bearings
    From the other side, the notebook begins with a sketch of a native of Melbourne, followed by sailing directions to Port Stevens. The date 14 February 1843 appears some pates further amongst scrappy notes
