    Joseph Patrick Archibald came to Melbourne in 1852 as Sergeant with a draft of London Police sent out as a gold escort. His son John Feltham Archibald (known as Jules Francois Archibald) took up journalism and was the founder, with John Haynes, of the Bulletin, which he edited for many years.
