- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
William Astley (1855-1911), short story writer Price Warung, was born in Liverpool, England, in 1854, and when 4 years old, was brought to Australia, where his parents settled in Richmond, near Melbourne. His first employment was book selling, followed by journalism, when he was connected with variious Victorian Journals, the Workman, Sydney, and the Bathurst Free Press. At Bathurst, he was secretary of the Bathurst Federal League. During the 1800's and 1890's, Astley contributed to the Sydney Bulletin, which published many of his stories of the convict days. Collections of these stories were published between 1892 and 1898. Astley died in Sydney in 1911. - Finding AidsContents list available in the Mitchell Library Reading Room -
