  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Jeffery Hart Bent, 1780-1852, first judge of the New South Wales Supreme Court, arrived in sydney July 1814. Bent quarrelled with Macquarie, was recalled, and returned to England in 1817.

    Ellis Bent, 1783-1815, younger brother of Jeffery Hart Bent, was appointed Judge Advocate of New South Wales in 1809. Bent quarrelled with Macquarie, and died in 1815 before a letter of recall reached him.
