    Reverend George Brown was born in County Durham, England on 7 December 1835. He went to New Zealand and joined the Australasian Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society. He served in Samoa, Duke of York Islands and New Britain, Tonga, New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Sydney. He also held office in a number of religious and secular organisations. He died at Gordon, N.S.W., in 1917.
