Sir James Dowling was the Chief Justice in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, 1839-1844. Lady Dowling nee Blaxland was his second wife. Harriet Marquet Blaxland was Lady Dowling's mother. Vincent Francis Woodcock and James Sheen Dowling were his two sons by a previous marriage. The latter was a District Court Judge in New South Wales.
