  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lorimer Fison was born in Suffolk, England on 9 November 1832. After being educated at Sheffield, Cambridge and Melbourne, he was ordained and served with the Australasian Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society in Fiji from 1863-1884. He was Principal of the Training Institution for Natives at Navuloa for much of that period. Later he became president of the Association for the Advancement of Science. He was also an anthropologist. He died in December 1907.

    a. 'Massacre of the Reverend Thomas Baker and party on Sunday 21st Juyly 1867 at Gaga dela Vatu Na Vosa, Viti Levu, Fiji'. After 1867
    i. Incomplete account in one handwriting.
    ii. Complete account in two other hands, apparently the version of a planter and store owner who lived at the Rewa River mouth at the time of the massacre.

    c. 'Reverend John Williams'. After 1889.
