  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Reverend Stanley Howard, 1850-1883 was born 11 February 1850, in Yorkshire. In 1869, he became a Pensioner at St. John's College, Cambridge, but his health failed before he could take a degree. He accepted an invitation from Bishop Barker to move to New South Wales in 1872. Howard studied for the Ministry at Moore College, Liverpool, was made deacon in 1873, ordained in 1875, and subsequently held various positions in the church in New South Wales.

    a. Daily account of Howard's visit to Canberra, where he stayed with the Rector, the Rev. Mr. Smith, and his family, with descriptions of the district and its social life. Typescript.
