The manuscript of this work was submitted to Halstead Press (the printing arm of Angus & Robertson) by Newhaven Press. It was thought to be libellous and legal opinion was sought. This opinion was that the novel was defamatory of Dr H. V. Evatt and probably other political figures. Halstead refused to print and Newhaven sued Halstead for breach of contract. Newhaven lost the case.
