  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Cornelius Delohery was born in 1839. He entered the Public Service in 1869? and occupied the position of clerk in the Central Police Office until 1872. He was then appointed clerk of petty sessions and land agent at Maitland. He was later transferred to Sydney, receiving the position of clerk of petty sessions and chamber magistrate. Three years afterwards he was made deputy stipendiary magistrate, and subsequently received the permanent appointment. During his time as a member of the Civil Service for a period he held the position of chairman of the Public Service Association, and was a member of the Public Service Board for 10 years. Mr Delohery died in 1924.

    1. Illuminated address farewelling Cornelius Delohery from the magistrates of the police district of Maitland, March, 1882.
    Address written in calligraphic hand with ornate borders. Lists the signatures of 27 magistrates. Illuminated by Horace M.A. de Coligny. Bound in brown leather album with gold embossing and lined with cream coloured silk.

    2. Illuminated address congratulating Cornelius Delohery on his appointment to the position of Deputy Stipendiary Magistrate, Central Police Office, Sydney, 1st March 1888.
    Address written in calligraphic hand with wide decorative border and corners featuring designs of Australian native flora. Illuminated by John Sands, George St, Sydney. Bound in green leather album and gold embossed. The address lists 11 signatures of colleagues from the Central Police Office, Sydney.
