  • Scope and Content
    6/1 School document of Citta di Asti in the school year of 1876. This document relates to Angelo Giuseppe Vigna, (1859-1948), the maternal grandfather of Carlo Salteri

    6/2 Diploma in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering Turin, awarded to Angelo Giuseppe Vigna (1859-1948), 31 December 1883. Angelo Vigna was instrumental in creating the first autostrada in Italy in 1924 from Milan to Varese. He was a very significant influence on Carlo Salteri, and was greatly admired by him.

    6/3 Typescript document entitled The Vigna Family. This document was written originally in Italian by Franco and Silvio Salteri, two brothers of Carlo Salteri. It was subsequently translated into English by Roslyn Cameron-Salteri. There are two copies, one in Italian and one in English. [n.d.] This document contains much biographical information about Carlo Salteri and his family. It is also an interesting account of life in Italy during the 20th Century. The Vigna family were very influential in Carlo Salteri’s life, in particular his mother, Flavia Vigna (1894-1957) and his maternal grandfather, Angelo Giuseppe Vigna (1859-1948).

    6/4 II Crociato Carlo, illustrated folder with a poem in Italian. Includes a translation into English. This document was intended to be a document in honour of Carlo Salteri, and created within the Transfield Corporation, but the exact provenance is not known. [large document, n.d.]

    6/5 Invitation to Doctor C. Salteri and Mrs Salteri to a ceremony to celebrate Australia Day, 1988, from the Hon. Barrie Unsworth, Premier of New South Wales.

    6/6 Invitation to Dr. C. Salteri and Mrs Salteri, requesting their presence at a State Luncheon at the Overseas Terminal, Circular Quay West, 26 January 1988. Also includes a complete seating plan for the event.

    6/7 Invitation to Dr. C. Salteri and Mrs Salteri from the Governor General and Lady Deane, to a State Dinner at Government House, Canberra, 8 December 1998.

    6/8 Press cutting regarding the visit of Pope John Paul II to Transfield ‘s Seven Hills Factory, 26 November 1986.

    6/9 Copy of a cartoon by Bill Leak, depicting (left-right) Carlo Salteri, Vittorlo Moratelli and Franco Belgiorno-Nettis (1915-2006). These three men formed the construction company Sabemo, the name being formed from their three names. On page 146 of Item 7/4 there is a photo of this cartoon, together with the three subjects and the artist Bill Leak, December, 1990.
