Edward (Ted) Richards began his professional photographic career in the late 1950s as an apprentice in a general studio. In 1962 he moved to the Photographic Unit of the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University in Canberra. In 1967 he became a commercial photographer working for the Herald and Weekly Times group of newspapers, House and Garden and Vogue Living magazines, and for the building industry. He worked as a commercial photographer until the late 1980s. One major photographic assignment was to photograph churches designed by the architect Edmund Blacket (1817-1883). This was done in conjunction with the National Trust of Australia (N.S.W.) and the University of Sydney for an exhibition to mark the 100th anniversary of Blacket's death.Reference:Library correspondence file
