• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  George Paton was born 15 December 1800 in Largs Scotland. He was a Master Stonemason and worked on significant New South Wales buildings in the 1830s and 1840s. He built the St Andrew's Scots Church, Australian College for Rev. Lang, Berrima Court House (see Sydney Gazette and NSW Advertiser 12 April 1838), Gosford Court House and Police Station, Garrison Church, The Australian Museum, The Bank of NSW, The Sydney Post Office and the Hero of Waterloo Hotel. Paton was a member of Sydney City Council, elected for Gipps Ward in 1847 (Sydney Chronicle, 1 January 1848). He died 23 August 1860 Kilwinning Farm, Fivedock NSW.
