    Charles Cecil went to Launceston, Tasmania, at the age of 16, accompanied by Charles Randall, brother-in-law of his sister Eliza. In Launceston, Charles Cecil worked as a clerk to Charles James Weedon, auctioneer. He later moved to Port Phillip and Western New South Wales.
