  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Reverend Philip Peters Agnew was born in Ross, Scotland in 1813. He studied at Oxford University before arriving in Sydney in 1844. He spent 1845 studying at St. John's College, Auckland, New Zealand. He returned to Sydney in 1846 and was appointed Chaplain to Sydney Gaol. In 1847 he was ordained Deacon and served at St. Andrew's Cathedral. From 1848 to 1856 he was Rector of St. Paul's Anglican Church, Carcoar,. In 1856 he was appointed Chaplain to Sydney Gaol and Immigration Chaplain. He later became a missionary mainly in Western NSW and Northern Victoria. He returned to England in 1881 and died ca. 1888.
