Jim McNeill, playwright, was born in 1935 and in 1967 was arrested for armed robbery and shooting and wounding a police officer. Sentenced to 17 years in jail, he only served 7 years. During his time in Parramatta Correctional Centre he wrote several plays and joined the prison's debating society, The Resurgents Discussion and Debating Society.
Chris Sonter would often go to Parramatta Correctional Centre to join in the debates where he met Jim McNeill.
