  The ambrotype is in an original folding presentation case.
  The owner suggested the ambrotype is of Mary Verge. This does not seem likely from comparison with a known portrait of Mary Verge in the Library's collection (DG 443) and from the age of the sitter in relation to Mary Verge’s age at the time the photograph was taken.
  The sitter of the photographic portrait could be Sarah Evans (nee Clegg) born in 1832, married in 1851), the daughter of Mary Verge by her first marriage.
