Wayne Wright (1965-1995) was involved with the Catholic lay Community of Francis and Clare, Darlinghurst, the Anglican Franciscans at Stroud, the Salvation Army and Buddhist groups. He had a troubled youth, suffering abuse, homelessness and alcohol addiction and at nineteen he was diagnosed with HIV+. With the help of the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous and the Redfern Community Health Centre he changed his life around and became a committed Christian who was able to use his hard learnt life skills to help others. He sought ordination in a variety of Christian Churches and devoted his life to changing the Church's attitude to AIDS and providing support for people living with HIV/AIDS. He wrote articles for Church magazines, gave public talks and was involved in HIV/AIDS education. In 1993 he organised a meeting of AIDS workers from different denominations to discuss co-operation between the churches and the setting up of an HIV/AIDS Interfaith Network. He died of health problems relating to AIDS when he was 29.
