Scope and Content
Survey data and sketches relating to Port Jackson and Newcastle. Dated 16 October 1828 on first page at Hen and Chicken [Bay]. Port Jackson localities named include Hen and Chicken [Bay], "Bedlam", Homebush, Burwood. Newcastle landmarks and localities include "Bonfire Lighthouse", Government cottage, breakwater.

Sketches in pencil or ink include: two double page panoramic views of Newcastle (landmarks include Government House, hospital, store, "Dr Brooks"); "Nobby [Nobby's Head] or Whibayganba" ("Correngor[-?]" marked to the north-east); Mt. Melville; Port Jackson; Goat Island.

Identified in 2008 as the first recorded mention of Nobbys as Whibayganba. An application to the NSW Geographic Names Board for dual naming of Nobbys/Whibayganba was approved in 2013.
