    The China War Medal was issued by the British Government in 1843 to members of the British Army and Royal Navy who took part in the First Anglo-Chinese War, also known as the First Opium War, 1839–42.

    B. Stevens was a member of the crew of the paddle sloop H.E.I.C.S. Queen
  • Scope and Content
    1 silver medal and crimson ribbon with yellow edges:
    Obverse : diademed head of Queen Victoria with the legend 'Victoria Regina'.
    Reverse : a collection of war trophies with the Royal Arms on an oval shield at centre, all in front of a palm tree with the legend 'Armis Exposcere Pacem' and the words 'China / 1842'.
    'B. Stevens H.E.I.C.S. Queen' impressed on medal edge.
