The Oral History Association of Australia was formed in Perth, July 1979. The NSW Branch was established in September 1979 and incorporated in October 1998. Its first meetings were held at the Royal Australian Historical Society, Macquarie Street Sydney, and brought together a wide range of people interested in gathering historical information from oral sources. Members of The Association conducted educational seminars and practical workshops for academic and professional groups as well as non-professional and community groups in the practice and methods of Oral History and produced a newsletter and bulletin. The Oral History Association N.S.W. Branch changed its name to Oral History NSW Inc in October 2013 and adopted a new constitution.
