    John Nimmo, enlistment no. 33955 was born at Joadja Creek, New South Wales. He embarked from Sydney aboard the HMAT A74 Marathon on the 10 May 1917 and served as a gunner in the 4th Field Artillery Brigade on the Western Front. He was gassed and spent long periods in hospital and convalescing. He returned to Australia in 1919.
  • Collection history
    The collection of diaries were found at the Salvation Army, Newcastle.
  • Scope and Content
    The diaries provide descriptions of travel, periods of leave, action on the Western Front for several months, and then long periods of hospitalisation after he was badly gassed, convalescence and leave.
