  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Blanche Mitchell, born 4 January 1843, was the youngest child of Sir Thomas Livingstone Mitchell, NSW Surveyor General and explorer, and his wife Mary (nee Blunt). She enjoyed a privileged childhood, growing up at Carthona, Darling Point, in Sydney. Being in reduced circumstances following the death of her father in 1855, the family moved to Craigend Terrace in Woolloomooloo, although Blanche maintained her links with Darling Point society. She died unmarried on 17 September 1869, of lung disease.
