  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Egan family papers being mainly the war diaries of Michael James Egan and his son Jack Edgar George Egan. Michael Egan enlisted in the 1st AIF and embarked for Europe on 27 October 1916 on HMAT Marathon. He saw action in France with the 47th Infantry Battalion and was wounded several times. Lance-Corporal Jack Egan enlisted in the AIF in 2/30th Battalion, 8th Division in June 1940. He was captured by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore in 1942 and imprisoned in Changi Prisoner of War Camp. He was killed on 27 November 1942 in a tree-felling accident and buried in the Changi cemetery.
