  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Lesley Jacob was an early pioneer of drug testing in Australian sport. Between 1950 and 1960 she was employed as assistant analyst at the Sydney Racing Laboratory operated by the Australian Jockey Club. In 1960 she left the AJC to work for R. K. Newman & Co, Public Analysts but continued to be employed by the AJC as relieving analyst.
  • Scope and Content
    MLMSS 9822
    6 diaries detailing the daily work performed by Lesley Jacob around testing for drug enhances in racing horses. Some of the results are also included. Diaries cover the period from 19 June 1950 through until 18 October 1958.

    3 hand-written notebooks detailing the results of tests on horses for performance-enhancing drugs.

    1 orange folder labelled "UNSW Bancroft MEAA" and dated Nov 14, containing a photograph depicting nine unidentified males and one unidentified female. Seven of the males are standing in the back row, while two of the males and the female are seated at the front with a long table pointing away from the group. There are note-pads and documents spread across the table. The folder also contains assorted clippings, handwritten notes, letters and documents. There is one typescript letter included in the folder as well.

    1 Manilla folder containing various typescripts, largely being correspondence between Mr Simmonds and others. In addition, there are three photographs of feathers, (specimens 7004B, 6890, and another) as well as 4 photographs of a plant.
