- Scope and ContentAn oval miniature portrait, executed in watercolour painted on white ivory. The work is signed ‘Olsen’ and undated. The miniature depicts the sitter, Edward King Cox (1829-1883), as a young sporting gentlemen of about 30 years of age, wearing a tailored wool jacket in a shade of red known as ‘hunting pink’, with single-notched, contrasting lapels, worn over a light coloured vest and white shirt with a starched wing collar and cravat secured with a gold, fox-headed pin set with a red stone. His hair is brushed down from a side parting and he sports a curled moustache of the style fashionable in the third quarter of the 19th century.
