  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Charles William Lloyd (1830-1919) was born in Shropshire, England. In 1854 he joined his brother in managing William Charles Wentworth’s Burburgate stations on the Liverpool Plains. In 1858 he formed Lloyd Bros with his two brothers, Edward and John and was appointed a magistrate of the territory. Charles retired to Sydney in 1863 and two years later married Rachel Campbell. He continued to own pastoral properties and in the 1870s became a councillor of the Agricultural Society and a founding member of the Linnean Society.

  • Scope and Content
    Family correspondence including letters received by Charles William Lloyd, 1859-1903 and by Rachel Lloyd, 1874-1886. They discuss family matters, the health of family and friends, as well as the activities of their friends and acquaintances. Also includes photocopies of additional letters received by Charles William Lloyd, 1862-1902 and by Rachel Lloyd, 1874-1877.
