  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Francis Joseph Campbell Brewer, a journalist of Kangaroo Point, Queensland was born in Sydney, New South Wales. He was a founding member of the Australian Journalists Association in NSW, 1910 and worked for the Daily Mail, Telegraph and Courier Mail. He enlisted at the age of 33, 8 Jan. 1917, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A29 Suevic, 21 June 1917 and served with the 20th Battalion, 20th Reinforcement, 5th Brigade, 2nd Division, A.I.F. in France, May-Oct. 1918. The 5th Brigade was responsible for the capture of the fortress of Mont St Quentin, Aug.-Sept. 1918. He was wounded in action 3 Oct. 1918 and returned to Australia on the City of York, 14 Jan. 1919

    Captain Edmund (Eddie) Gregan Brewer enlisted 1 Mar. 1916 aged 29 and embarked from Sydney on HMAT A30 Borda, 5 June 1916. He served with the ‘B’ Coy, 42nd Battalion, 11th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Divisional Artillery in France and was promoted Captain in Apr. 1917. He was court-martialed at Bailleul, 19 July 1917 and returned to Australia on HT Pakeha, Oct. 1917
